Niue is home to some of the most spectacular dolphins on the planet. It is one of the very few places in the world that offers an opportunity for close-up encounters with dolphins just minutes from the shore in warm, crystal-clear waters with only a handful of other visitors around. Visitors can even swim with the graceful creatures, interacting with them as they make their way through the pods.
Niue’s Spinner dolphins are permanent residents in the waters, and they often give amazing acrobatic displays around the reef. They get their name from the high, spinning leaps they make out of the water, sometimes spinning as much as 6 or 7 times before crashing exuberantly back into the waves. They erupt from the water nose first, already spinning along the vertical axis of their body, and are fascinating to watch.
